The webinar will be open 15 minutes before the nominal start each day (9:00 a.m. CET, i.e. open to attendeees at 8:45 CET), in order to try and start sharp at 9:00.
Materials eventually shared (links, presentations, etc.) by speakers will be, after the school, available from the respective contributions on the timetable (see example). What is not going to be there will only be available as asynchronous video.

The school runs for five days.
Its synchronous live real-time parts start at 9:00 and end for most days at 17:30 (CET time zone). Activities are divided in four blocks of 1.5h each. Typically the first one is lecture-like, the second two (1.5h x 2) are hands-on, the last one includes seminar talks related to the theme of the day. A special seminar event is also planned for Wednesday at 17:30-18:30.
The focus of this year is on geologic mapping from orbit at the scale of landing sites. The targets will be Mars and the Moon. Seminars will complement the core content.
For those who are not able to follow activities live, the school will also be asynchronous.
The recorded lessons will be available shortly after the end of live activities.
Upon completion of the School, there will be two types of certificates: One for standard participation, and one additional advanced certificate based on the map production linked to hands-on.
The basic certificate will require basic quizzes covering very surficially the content of each class, i.e. only attendance needed to answer those, no extra dedicated study time.
The creation of a map is not mandatory for the basic certificate level.
The mapping tasks for the advanced certificate will be individual, not group-based.
We will distribute the Zoom link for the first day (Jan 30th) a few days before the start of the Winter School. The links for each school day will be shared the day before.
In case of technical issues or zoom bombing, we will communicate links via email or Discord. Please check your email in case, and also the spam folder.
Please note that the number of participants is quite high. This means that real-time Q&A or interaction via audio or discord might be challenging. Please be patient with instructors and fellow participants.
Also, lectures and hands-on are tightly packed, therefore questions cannot be answered during those sessions (unless there is any unused time at the end), but during dedicated Q&A slots (see program).
We will maximise the time for questions and discussions, but it might be tight. Please make use of the Q&A feature of Zoom, and Discord channels to ask eventual follow-up questions.
Relevant unanswered questions during the Q&A time will be anyways collected and addressed asynchronously, and possibly bundled.
Long-term follow-ups matters/questions will be subject of dedicated monthly GMAP community telecons, announced via Discord channel.
Please note that the level of treatment (see previous schools) is ideal for late undergraduate / graduate /PhD students with some familiarity with geologic concepts and basic ideas of remote sensing. We will try to point to resources and suitable literature for the participants, with their diverse backgrounds (see further below).

Please install latest versions (3.28 or 3.22 LTR) of QGIS for your platform:
Prior versions will not work properly with our plugins or mapping projects.
QGIS works fine both in Intel-based and M1-M2 Macs (with the emulation layer, but performance is not affected).
The SIP (System Integrity Protection) on MacOS does not automatically allow you to install downloaded applications from the web. To solve this issue:
